Target ozone therapy directly to a specific limb with these 100% PTFE (Teflon) ozone-resistant bags. Simply insert your arm or leg, feed in the ozone outlet tube, and seal around the limb with a velcro tie. The PTFE material contains the ozone safely without releasing it into the room.
What is Ozone Limb Bagging?
Limb bagging is a method of applying ozone to one part of the body rather than to the whole system. These bags are the containment equipment for that method: they hold the ozone against the limb and keep it out of the room air. They are an accessory for use with an ozone generator.
Limb bagging has been used for a range of stubborn skin and tissue conditions, including:
- Gangrene and diabetic foot ulcers
- Bed sores and slow-healing wounds
- Burns and infected wounds
- Nail fungus and insect bites
- Inflammation-related conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis
How the Field Grades This Evidence
The Madrid Declaration on Ozone Therapy (4th edition, 2025) is the consensus document of the International Scientific Committee of Ozone Therapy (ISCO3). It classifies conditions by evidence level, using criteria adapted from the US Preventive Services Task Force and the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine: Level A means good scientific evidence that clinical benefits substantially outweigh risks; Level B means reasonable evidence that benefits outweigh risks; Level C means the balance of benefit and risk is too close to call.
The Declaration is also explicit that ozone therapy "must be practiced as a complementary, adjuvant, or palliative treatment" - used alongside conventional medicine rather than as a replacement for it.
- Diabetic foot ulcers - Level A. The Declaration's highest grade, and the strongest-graded indication relevant to this equipment.
- Pressure ulcers, chronic wounds and infected burn wounds - Level B, within a grouping specifically covering ozonated solutions and oils applied topically.
- Osteomyelitis, abscesses with fistula, infected wounds and burns - Level B.
- Fungal conditions - Level B, including athlete's foot, onychomycosis (nail fungus) and ringworm of the foot.
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis - Level B. Worth being precise here: that grading is for ozone therapy in general, and the studies behind it use injection and infiltration routes rather than limb bagging. We have not found clinical studies testing the bagging route specifically for either condition.
- Gangrene does not appear as a graded indication in its own right at any level.
What the Research Shows
Topical ozone has been studied mainly in patients with chronic wounds, in clinical settings. The findings below describe what researchers observed about ozone therapy; study design, participant numbers and limitations are stated so you can weigh the evidence yourself.
- Lower-Limb Ulcers - Systematic Review: A systematic review of ozone used alongside conventional wound care in adults with chronic lower-limb wounds identified seven studies enrolling 506 patients, the majority focused on diabetic foot ulcers. A healing effect was reported across all seven, and none reported adverse effects attributable to ozone. The reviewers stressed that the underlying trials differed widely in delivery method, concentration and treatment schedule, that several were small, and that more controlled randomised trials are needed. - Chronic Wounds - Systematic Review in Humans: Fitzpatrick and colleagues (International Wound Journal, 2018) reviewed nine human studies covering 453 participants with diabetic, venous and arterial ulcers, burns and one gunshot wound. All nine reported improved wound closure compared with standard care or baseline, with full ulcer closure rates 13.6 to 37 per cent higher in ozone-treated groups. Only four were randomised controlled trials; the reviewers rated two studies low risk of bias and six moderate, and concluded that no single trial is conclusive on its own. - Severe Diabetic Foot Syndrome - Small Controlled Study: A Russian study of 37 patients with Wagner grade 3-5 diabetic foot syndrome (deep ulceration with infection or gangrene) added ozone therapy to standard surgical treatment. The ozone group received intravenous ozone-saturated saline daily alongside wound dressings soaked in ozonised saline. Wound swabs showed bacteria cleared by day 5, against day 10 or later in the comparison group, and hospital stays were around seven days shorter. Note that this was intravenous and topical ozone given alongside surgery in hospital. The comparison group was a historical one treated the previous year rather than a randomised control, the study was single-centre, and follow-up ran only 10 days. Read our summary.
- Antimicrobial Activity - Laboratory Evidence: A 2020 review in Molecules by Ugazio and colleagues reported minimum inhibitory concentrations of 1.18-9.5 mg/mL against bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA, and 0.2-0.53 µg/mL against Candida species. - Antifungal Activity Against Dermatophytes - Laboratory Evidence: Ouf and colleagues (Brazilian Journal of Microbiology, 2016) exposed five dermatophyte species in culture to ozone, reducing spore formation by 97-99% in the most susceptible species and damaging fungal cell membranes. This was a laboratory study on cultures, not a trial in people. Read our summary or the original paper.
Ozone inactivates bacteria, viruses and fungi in laboratory testing. Increased local blood flow and support for the body's natural healing process are the mechanisms proposed in the reviews above - though the authors of those reviews are consistent that the evidence base remains limited and that larger randomised trials are needed.
