Why ozonate water?
When humans explore other planets for signs of life, the first things we look for are water and oxygen. That’s how fundamental they are to our very existence.
Imagine if we could combine pure water with active oxygen and create an incredibly powerful substance which can work both as a sanitiser and provide systemic benefits to your entire body!
This is exactly what ozonated water does. Sounds too good to be true?
You don’t have to take my word for it, come to our website and browse the many studies that have been completed. Everything I am about to tell you is backed up by rigorous scientific investigation.
Ozone is used in many countries including Switzerland and Singapore in place of chemicals like chlorine to treat their water supply. That’s because ozone neutralises the pathogens then quickly dissipates, leaving no trace.
But what we’re talking about today is infusing water with ozone and then using it while the ozone is still active. For more information on just how ozone works, please see our video Secret Science Of Ozone Gas, Is It Good For You? Uses, Benefits, Risks.
5 uses for ozonated water
Here are just some of the uses for ozonated water:
- Drink it on an empty stomach for overall health benefits (more on that later)
- Use it as a disinfectant for benchtops, cleaning cloths etc
- Gargle to optimise oral health
- Wash fresh food to neutralise agricultural chemicals and pathogens, improving shelf life
- Apply it to wounds and skin legions as a gentle anti-bacterial wash
Drinking ozonated water
So, what are the proven health benefits of drinking ozonated water?
Unfortunately there has not been a lot of high level research regarding the effect of drinking freshly ozonated water, however there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that drinking a glass per day on an empty stomach can be a meaningful part of your wellness regime.
I have done it for many years and feel like it gives me a lift. When I feel a cold or flu coming on, I gargle regularly, and it really seems to help keep the lurgies at bay. The anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities are very well documented, so while that is not proof, it does have a potential mechanism of action.
Health claims for drinking ozonated water
Here are some of the common claims for health benefits of drinking ozonated water and the evidence to support them:
- Better oxygenation of cells and increasing mitochondrial function:
Ozone therapy in other protocols has been shown in studies to increase both of these markers. I have not seen research specific to drinking ozonated water, but it would be in line with the existing evidence.
- Reduction of systemic inflammation:
In 2017, researchers in Japan proved that ozonated water decreases inflammation in mice. This has yet to be brought to human trials but aligns with clinical experience reported over many years.
- Decrease risk of stomach ulcers:
In a 2006 clinical trial, researchers showed that drinking ozonated water proved effective in relation to regress of clinical symptoms, regeneration processes and eradication of Helicobacter pylori associated gastroduodenal ulcers.
- Immune regulation:
Ozone therapy has been shown in numerous studies to be immune modulating which means that it will attenuate an overactive immune system and stimulate if underactive. Please note that these studies are not specific to ozonated water but include various different protocols.
- Cancer patient support
Please note, I am not saying that drinking ozonated water will cure cancer!
However, ozone has been proven to attack some types of tumours in vitro. Ozone therapy has been shown to support conventional cancer treatment by supporting the immune system and remediating some of the negative effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, in particular tumour hypoxia.
We don’t have time in this video to investigate all the stories of beneficial effects of drinking ozonated water, but there’s plenty more info at our website if you are curious.
How to make ozonated water – 3 methods
So, how do you make ozonated water?
As discussed above, we are talking about using water while the ozone is still active. That means you are going to have to make it yourself because the ozone dissipates in about half an hour at room temperature. There are three methods of doing this. Which one suits your family depends on a few factors
Method 1 - Tap integrated ozone generator
As the name implies, this device fits directly to your tap or water system. It gives you the convenience of getting ozonated water directly from your kitchen or laundry faucet. There are even special systems designed for laundry which eliminate the need for washing powder and hot water.
Method 2 – Multipurpose unit
This is a small, economical unit which can ozonate water by bubbling through using a diffuser stone or else act as an air purifier for enclosed spaces such as cupboards, fridge, car or decontamination chamber. A lot of our customers like to have a unit such as this in their kitchen to handle many of the tasks listed above.
Method 3 – Water bubbler
For those who already have home ozone therapy equipment, all you need is a water bubbler, which can also be used as a humidifier. This is by far the best way to make ozonated water for drinking, but not so convenient if you intend using it for some of the other uses listed here.
