Description
Ozonated Jojoba Gel - The Gentlest, Made in New Zealand
A 50g jar of certified organic jojoba infused with medical-grade ozone, made in small batches in New Zealand and stored frozen until it ships. Jojoba absorbs faster than any of our other gels and leaves no greasy film, which is why most people who buy it use it on their face.
At a glance
- Strength: gentlest of the four - the mildest ozone load
- Texture: absorbs fastest, non-greasy, no residue
- Best for: faces, sensitive and reactive skin, children, daily use
- Ingredients: organic jojoba and ozone. Nothing else
- Free from: preservatives, stabilisers, GMOs, fragrance. Vegan and cruelty-free
- Size: 50g glass jar
Which gel should I choose?
All four gels use the same medical-grade ozone. What changes is the carrier - which determines strength, texture and how quickly it absorbs. The guidance below reflects what our customers tell us in their reviews, not just theory.
| Gel | Feel | What customers use it for |
|---|---|---|
|
Jojoba gentle · fastest to absorb (you are here) |
Absorbs fastest of all four, leaves no greasy film | Faces, daily moisturising, sensitive and reactive skin, facial and children's eczema, lips, minor cuts and grazes. The mildest of the range |
|
Olive medium · balanced absorption |
Spreads easily over larger areas, slight protective residue | Cuts, grazes and burns, bed sores, eczema on the body, dry and cracked areas, gums, aches and stiff joints, everyday moisturising. Our most-reviewed and most versatile gel |
|
Hemp strongest · slowest to absorb |
Thick and sticky, stays exactly where you put it, absorbs slowly | Fungal nails, stubborn or thickened patches, slow-healing and infected wounds. Some people find it too strong for sensitive or acutely inflamed skin |
|
Glycerine water-soluble · draws moisture in |
Water-soluble, syrupy, non-greasy and virtually odourless | Gums and mouth, age spots, dehydrated skin. Dissolves in water so it can be diluted and sprayed, which the oils cannot |
Which one for eczema?
Our customers report using all three oils for eczema, and the right one depends on where and how severe. Jojoba comes up most for faces, children and sensitive skin - it is the one parents tend to reach for. Olive for eczema on the body and larger areas. Hemp for stubborn, thickened patches that haven't responded to something milder. If you are unsure, start here and go stronger only if you need to.

What people use it for
The list below reflects what our customers describe in their reviews.
- Face and daily moisturising: by a wide margin the most common use. As a night cream, a day moisturiser, or under makeup
- Eczema and dermatitis: particularly on faces, on children, and on skin that reacts badly to heavier products
- Babies and young children: including facial eczema and nappy rash
- Minor cuts, grazes and scratches: dabbed on as they heal
- Lips: as a simple lip balm
- Fine lines and puffiness: several customers report using it as an anti-ageing serum
- Blemishes: on skin too sensitive for a stronger gel
- Sensitive and reactive skin generally, including rashes and reactions
Why jojoba is the gentlest - and the most stable
Ozone gas is highly unstable. It breaks down within minutes and cannot be bottled or applied to skin on its own. Bubbling it through a carrier solves that: ozone reacts with the double bonds in the carrier's unsaturated fatty acids to form stable ozonide compounds, which release active oxygen slowly on contact with skin.
Jojoba is unusual. It is not really an oil at all - it is around 98% wax esters rather than the triglycerides that make up olive and hemp oil, and its structure is closer to human sebum than any other common botanical. Two things follow from that.
First, it carries less ozone than hemp or olive, because it has fewer double bonds available. That makes it the mildest gel in the range - a limitation for stubborn problems, and exactly the point for faces and sensitive skin. Second, jojoba is remarkably stable. Its wax-ester backbone and natural tocopherol content give it far longer shelf life than conventional plant oils, which matters for a product whose active compounds are inherently perishable.
It also absorbs quickly and does not sit on the surface, which is why it suits daily facial use in a way the heavier gels do not.
What the research shows
The findings below concern ozonated oils and jojoba as substances, not this jar. Study design and limitations are stated so you can judge the evidence yourself.
An honest note first: the clinical studies of ozonated oils use olive, sunflower or camellia oil. There is essentially no published research on ozonated jojoba specifically. What is documented is jojoba's own chemistry and safety, and ozonated oils as a class.
How the field grades the evidence
The Madrid Declaration on Ozone Therapy (4th edition, 2025), the consensus document of the International Scientific Committee of Ozone Therapy, grades topically applied ozonated oils at Level B - reasonable scientific evidence that benefits outweigh risks - for atopic dermatitis, psoriasis vulgaris, nail fungus, athlete's foot, pressure ulcers and chronic wounds.
Jojoba chemistry, anti-inflammatory action and safety
Gad and colleagues (Polymers, 2021) reviewed jojoba literature from 1990 to 2021. In animal work jojoba reduced inflammation and prostaglandin E2 levels. On safety, crude jojoba showed no acute toxicity in mice, ocular application in rabbits caused only mild reversible irritation, and human patch and prick testing found no allergic reactions except in people already highly allergy-prone. This is a narrative review without formal quality scoring, and much of the efficacy evidence comes from laboratory and animal models. Read our summary.
Jojoba and blemish-prone skin
A prospective observational pilot study used a clay and jojoba oil facial mask on lesioned skin and mild acne, reporting improvement over six weeks. A pilot study without a control group - an early signal rather than proof. Read our summary.
Skin barrier and microbiome - small exploratory trial
A split-body trial in 12 patients aged 6-28 with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis compared ozone hydrotherapy followed by ozonated oil against tap water and plain oil on the opposite side, over three days. Treated sides showed roughly a 22% fall in SCORAD score and increased microbial diversity. The reduction in Staphylococcus aureus did not reach statistical significance. Twelve patients over three days is a very small, very short study. Read our summary.
Antimicrobial activity - laboratory
A 2020 review in Molecules (Ugazio and colleagues) reported minimum inhibitory concentrations of 1.18-9.5 mg/mL against bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, and 0.2-0.53 µg/mL against Candida. Nearly all in vitro. Read our summary.
How to use
Apply to clean skin and massage gently. It absorbs within a minute, so you can dress or apply makeup straight afterwards. A pea-sized amount covers the whole face.
- Face: morning and night as a daily moisturiser
- Eczema and dermatitis: apply to clean, affected areas 2-3 times daily
- Children and babies: a small amount to the affected area as needed
- Cuts and grazes: dab on as they heal
- Lips: apply as needed
Patch test on a small area first. If a skin condition is worsening or not improving, speak to a healthcare professional.
Questions people ask
Is this the right one for my face?
If you want an ozonated gel for daily facial use, yes - it is the only one of the four designed for it. It absorbs in under a minute, leaves no shine, and is mild enough for reactive skin. Olive works as a night treatment but can feel heavy by day; Hemp is too thick for all-over facial use.
Can I use it on my baby or child?
Many of our customers do, most often for facial eczema and nappy rash, and it is the mildest gel we make. Patch test first, and check with your doctor or Plunket nurse if your child has a diagnosed skin condition or you are at all unsure.
Will it clog my pores?
Jojoba's structure is close to the skin's own sebum, and it absorbs rather than sitting on the surface. Customers with blemish-prone skin are among its regular users.
Will it help with fine lines?
Some customers report softer fine lines and less puffiness with regular use. That is customer experience rather than trial evidence, and results vary.
Why is it gentler than the other gels?
Jojoba has fewer double bonds for ozone to react with, so it carries a lighter ozonide load than hemp or olive. Less strength, more tolerability - which is the trade-off you want on a face.
How is it different from ordinary jojoba oil?
Ordinary jojoba contains no ozonides. Ozone gas is too unstable to store or apply on its own, but bubbling it through jojoba creates stable compounds that release active oxygen slowly on the skin.
Does it smell?
It has a mild characteristic scent, gentler than the stronger gels, and no added fragrance.
Storage
Keep cool, dry and out of direct light. Refrigeration extends shelf life and preserves ozone potency. Jojoba is the most stable of our carriers, but the ozonides are still perishable - use within 12 months of opening.
