Respiratory Relief Ozone Bundle

RI is the core systemic protocol and the one most people start with. The bowel wall carries ozone into the bloodstream quickly, which makes it the most efficient route available to you outside a clinic. It is also the route with the largest body of clinical use behind it, and the one the Madrid Declaration sets out parameters for.

Breathing Ozonated Oil

Here is how it works, plainly. Ozone gas is a lung irritant and must never be breathed straight from a generator. In BOO it is bubbled slowly through a flask of olive oil first, where it reacts with the double bonds in the oil's unsaturated fatty acids to form ozonides. What you breathe through the nasal cannula is the vapour above the reacted oil. The oil is not a filter and it is not optional - it is the chemistry the whole protocol rests on, which is why the flask, the diffuser stone and the check valve all matter.

When to change the oil

The oil is consumed by the reaction. Once it is saturated it stops reacting, and what reaches the cannula is no longer what you set out to breathe.

Harshness, a dry or scratchy throat, or any irritation partway through a session means stop and put in fresh oil. Watch for heavy frothing too. Do not push on through it, and do not try to stretch a flask further than it wants to go - oil is the cheapest part of this kit.

Questions people ask

Will this help my allergies?

There are two honest halves to that answer.

The house we can be confident about. If dust, mould or a musty room are part of your winter, the Purimax-5 goes after those directly and you can judge the difference yourself. That is a claim about the room, and it is one we are happy to stand behind.

The therapy side we can explain, but not promise. Ozone therapy is understood to work by hormesis - a controlled, deliberately mild oxidative stress. The proposed mechanism is that this activates Nrf2, the body's own antioxidant switch, which raises production of protective enzymes such as SOD, catalase and glutathione peroxidase while damping down NF-kB, the pathway that drives inflammatory signalling. In plain terms: a small, controlled stress that prompts the body to turn its own anti-inflammatory machinery up. Allergic symptoms are driven by that same inflammatory response, so there is a plausible line between the two.

Plausible is the right word and we are going to use it rather than a stronger one. The mechanism is documented in the peer-reviewed literature, including specifically for chronic inflammatory conditions. What has not been done is the clinical work to show it produces a result in allergy. The Madrid Declaration, the international consensus document our handbook follows, grades the allergic and respiratory conditions at Level C - theoretical benefit, no clinical evidence yet. Ozone therapy is widely used for inflammatory conditions and people do tell us they notice a difference, but personal accounts are not proof and we will not dress them up as proof.

So: try it if the reasoning appeals to you and you would like to see for yourself. Do not stop anything your doctor has you on, and talk to them first if you are managing a diagnosed condition.

Can BOO help with asthma, COPD or bronchitis?

We are not going to tell you it will. Here is what is actually known, so you can decide for yourself.

The Madrid Declaration - the international consensus document our handbook is written to - grades asthma, COPD and bronchitis at Level C, its lowest tier, meaning theoretical benefit but no real clinical evidence. One small randomised trial exists of ozone delivered through olive oil, in hospitalised patients, with real limitations. Our BOO guide sets it out in full. Beyond that there is practitioner experience and what our customers tell us, and we are not going to dress either of those up as proof.

If you have a diagnosed respiratory condition, talk to your doctor before you start, and never use BOO in place of prescribed medication or an inhaler.

Why is there so little research on BOO?

Ozone's irritant effect on the lungs is so well established that inhalation studies are hard to get approved and hard to publish, so the practice has developed through clinical use rather than through trials. That cuts both ways. It means the absence of studies is not proof that nothing is happening - and it also means nobody can honestly promise you a result. We would rather say that than guess.
