Update from Floodland

Those of you who follow our newsletter would already know that our family home in Lismore was inundated in the recent floods.

Word from the street

Simon Thomas, our R&D director flew straight over to begin the mammoth task of cleaning and restoring to habitable condition. Here is an update directly from Lismore.

Simon Says

Driving into Lismore a few days after the peak of the flood was a shocking experience. Before every home and every business, bar none, stood a mountain of ruined possessions. The refuse of existence in our consumer-driven paradigm.

A massive task

Imagine that unexpectedly, your house is immersed in over a metre of filthy muddy water. Everything that water touches is covered in a rancid, toxic silt. You save what can be saved and do your best to salvage the things that can be properly cleaned. I have been ozonating the kitchen equipment to ensure that every trace of chemical and pathogen has been removed. Here is one of our old videos which explains how to make a decontamination chamber.

Once we had removed every sodden item from the house and cleaned the walls and floors several times with the pressure cleaner, we began the drying out phase. Ideally, one has dehumidifiers, fans and heaters. However, there are no shops operating in Lismore at the moment. Even the biggest supermarkets and entire shopping square have been inundated. So all I have is a large fan and a Purimax Portable Air Ozonator.

So far so good

This regime has been working well for me. Now, just over two weeks since the peak, I have only a small amount of mould visible. The rank smell that seems to linger even after you have expelled every trace of mud is quickly ameliorated by a half hour ozone treatment.

For those who have not yet seen our Purimax video, this how-to video shows exactly how the unit works. No different in flood affected homes.

I have already loaned out the Purimax to friends who have also had excellent results. If you are in the area and need to borrow one, just email us at Natural Ozone and we can arrange a loan.

Festering wounds

A friend of mine who is a theatre nurse at Lismore Base Hospital told me that they have one operating theatre dedicated exclusively to treating infected wounds. Hundreds of people have cut themselves while mucking out and within a few days have terrible infections, at least two have faced amputations as a result.

Natural Ozone Healing Gel

I brought a bottle of jojoba healing gel as an all round skin tonic, but have also been using it on my own cuts. As soon as I notice a cut on my hands or fingers, I apply it several times per day and so far I have not had any infection at all. I wish I had brought a whole box to give away!
